Vet Support Scotland will be served by the current cohort of Vet Support NI volunteer vets and RVNs until such time as the Scottish demand necessitates the training of Scottish colleagues to join the team.

Gemma Daly

Qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2007. Worked for 5 years in mixed practice in NI. Joined DAERA Veterinary Service in 2012 and has worked in a variety of roles including field veterinary officer, agriculture education and training veterinary officer at CAFRE Greenmount College and currently work as a veterinary officer in Epizootics division. Member of the Board of Trustees for NI charity, Rural Support.

Seán E Rooney

Graduated from the University of Bristol in 2012. First year in mixed practice after which the equine route was followed. Worked in various assistant positions across Wales and England. He returned home to NI in summer 2016 to take up an assistant role at The Veterinary Clinic Rathfriland. In charge of driving the equine side of the practice and still works as a mixed practitioner to facilitate the OOH rota.

James Buick

Qualified Dublin 1999. Assistant in mixed practice for a year, small animal practice for 3 years, VO in DARD for 7 years and then practice owner/principal in small animal practice since 2011. Lives in Belfast and works in Newtownards.

Andy Mayne

Graduated from London 1989. Worked as mixed vet Somerset 2 years. Worked Australia 6 months. Started working at Jubilee Vet Clinic, Newtownards in 1992. Director since 1996. 100% farm animal work. Past Treasurer and President of AVSPNI.

Pat Hart

Graduated Glasgow University 1974. Small Animal Intern Pennsylvania 1974-1975. Cedar Grove Vet Clinic Small Animal Practice Partner 1976-2011. RCVS Cert S A Dermatology 1994. AVP Cert 2014. 2011 to present, work part time mainly Dermatology referrals at Cedar Grove.

John Hill

Qualified Trinity College Dublin 1975. Mixed practitioner and partner in Glenburn Veterinary Surgeons and almost retired in 2015. Heavily involved in veterinary politics, past president of AVSPNI, NIVA and SPVS. Currently, Chairman of VetNI, trustee of Pet Blood Bank and President of the British Bee Veterinary Association.

Fiona McFarland

Fiona graduated from Bristol University in 2004 and worked predominantly in large animal practice in Somerset, England before returning home in 2010. She moved into the small animal sector in 2012 working at Earlswood Referrals then managing their branch – Hollygate Veterinary Clinic until April 2017 and is currently working as a small animal locum vet. She has been a council member and public relations officer of the North of Ireland Veterinary Association (NIVA) since 2013, council member of BVA NI Branch, committee member and one of the founders of the Young Vet Network NI and member of BVA Policy Committee. She has been the NI representative on BVA Members Services Group and past president of AVS.

David McKeown

1972 Glasgow graduate. Worked in Cape Town and North Antrim. Started Knockanboy Vet Clinic in 1975 – 6 vet mixed practice. Board member of the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) in 1989. VDS involvement slowly increased to a full time job by 2003. Various roles including being a member of the VDS Executive. Current role as Director of Member Services dealing with membership and policy issues with a particular interest/passion for matters Irish.

Shane Murray

Qualified from Glasgow University 1997. Started in mixed practice. Locumed throughout England and Australia. Worked in the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001. Set up Braemar Vet Clinic small animal practice in Belfast in 2007.

Louise Patterson

Worked in the veterinary profession since 2000. Qualified as Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2006. Started in small animal practice helping to train student VNs, moving on to an Out Of Hours role, worked with referral cases, locum nursing and VN Education. Have also worked in research. Since 2013 involved in delivering the RVN courses at Greenmount.

Naoimh Toner

Registered Veterinary Nurse. Qualified in 2003 from Greenmount Agricultural College. Work in mixed practice with my full time RVN job divided between 2 practices. Based in Co. Londonderry and have recently been appointed as the Regional Co-ordinator for the BVNA in NI.
